For the Chocolate Cake:

For the Chocolate Cream Cheese Buttercream Frosting:

1½ cups (340 g) unsalted butter, softened

8 oz (225 g) cream cheese, softened

1½ cups (155 g) unsweetened cocoa powder

3 teaspoons (15 ml) vanilla extract
-
7–8 cups (875–1000 g) powdered sugar (confectioners' sugar)

¼ cup (60 ml) milk (adjust for desired consistency)
π§ Instructions
πΉ Make the Cake
1. Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 350°F (176°C). Grease three 9-inch (23 cm) round cake pans with butter and dust with flour. Tap out any excess.
2. Mix Dry Ingredients
In the bowl of a stand mixer, combine:

3. Add Wet Ingredients

4. Divide & Bake
Evenly divide the batter among the prepared pans.
Bake for 30–35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
5. Cool
Let cakes cool in their pans on a wire rack for 15 minutes. Then, carefully turn them out onto the racks to cool completely before frosting.

1. Beat Butter & Cream Cheese
In a large mixing bowl, beat softened butter and cream cheese together until light, creamy, and fluffy — about 3–5 minutes.
2. Add Cocoa & Vanilla
Add the cocoa powder and vanilla extract. Mix until smooth.
3. Add Powdered Sugar
Gradually beat in the powdered sugar, one cup at a time, scraping down the sides as needed.
Add milk, a tablespoon at a time, until the frosting reaches your preferred consistency — creamy yet spreadable.

Place one cooled cake layer on your serving plate or cake stand.
Spread an even layer of frosting on top. Repeat with the second and third layers.
Frost the top and sides of the cake with the remaining buttercream.
